Hope your problem is a simple fix like a bent lever but it sounds more serious to me and warranty should cover it. Good luck. On a side note I got myself a nice steel shift lever from MSR, its for a 93-06 Honda XR650L and has a steel folding tip, no rubber cover. Sorry no pics but I took some measurements. Stock lever from cover was 10mm(3/8") MSR out of the package is 23mm(7/8") from the cover so the folding tip is about 12mm(1/2" farther out from stock and the lever itself is about 12mm(1/2") longer than stock. Just for your info.

 

LOL the other weekend I tried an enduro (unsuccessfully) and ended up bending my shift lever back 180 degrees, it was on top of my foot peg. Easy fix, bent it back the right way and carried on

 

Yep! got em both covered. Don't like long bush walks in 40oC heat.

 

Mine is an 06 and I've never had a problem. 10,000 + miles Sorry about that man, let us know what you find out.

 

When i first got my bike (09), the same thing happened. It all of a sudden stopped shifting... didn't hit anything.. the dealer fixed it and gave it back (under warranty)... drove it like 4 km's with no issues, then same thing... i lost all gears (one at a time)... they ended up giving me a totally new bike.

Hope your dealer is as good as mine was!

Thats what I was looking for. Did the dealer ever say what the cause was?

This is really an odd issue.

Rode it and it was working fine shut it off and rode it later and gears were missing. No Bent levers, No impact, Oil is fine.

2009 - less than 1k miles

 

Just wanted to give everyone a update.

Dropped it at the dealer, I asked them about the Shift Star System (They didn't know what I was talking about)

They just called after tearing it apart and calling Kawasaki, It is the Shift Star system, they are replacing the parts under the warranty.

Sorry i didn't get back to this earlier...

They told me it was the shift star the first time i brought it in... they replaced the shift star and closed it back up (I had 80 kms on my bike at this point)...After the replacement is when it happened to me the second time... lost gears about 10kms (6 miles) into the ride home.

that's when they replaced mine. Hope you have better luck but bring someone with you to pick it up. if ANYTHING goes wrong on the way home, turn right around and bring it back.
