That wheelie machine seems like a safe way to get some practice in. I've always had bikes that could do pretty easy roll on wheelies, so I never had to learn to do one with the clutch. With this bike, it has taken me some practice and I am finally getting it down,but I'm still working on keeping the bike up when shiftingthrough. 1st gear reaches it's top end pretty quick.

 

which of course is higher gearing than ours

 

I'm confused, or maybe I just dont understand the gearing principals.

14/39 = 2.78 (Dtracker)
14/42 = 3 (stock)
13/42 = 3.23 (very common)
13/45 = 3.46 (also very common)

So is it easier to do wheelies with a LOWER final drive?

 

Your not confused, yer a big boy, smaller front sprocket more torque

 

Thats why big guys like you rip chains up.

 

omg... its the clutch... you can change your gears all you want, but in then end the clutch is king.

so far i've gotten it up in 1st and shifted right up to the top of 3rd with out puttin the front wheel down, but it gets pretty scary and i dont think i've got enought power in 3rd to correct my self when i let it come down a little too much off its balance point.

oh and i learned how to do a stopie this same day... small, but the tire is off the ground! lol

 

On the slab i can go mostly thru 3rd in a wheelie with stock gearing......That is of course with stabbing the clutch hard in 2nd and a slight tug.....but like mentioned above you better cover the rear brake.Off road even with 14/49 i can't get crap past second unless i got some serious dirt to hook up the TM2 in....it just blazes the tire off.I'm used to a kx 125 with alot of mods so i'm still adjusting to the totally different power curve.....I think the 125 is easier to wheelie offroad IMO.my 125 did have a good hit but it had alot of over rev in the motor so it was easy to keep her going when the motor was up in the pipe in the sweet spot.....it just felt smoother.but then again i'm comparing apples to oranges here.
