Just out of curiosity, I was wondering who has the most mileage on their beast here... You think that with regular maintenance and check-ups and what have you that these little devils will last for like 50-75 thousand miles, or shoot, 100 thousand miles?

If you managed to avoid some crucial wreckages, etc, and changed oil and did all that good stuff every thousand miles or so... Do you see why it wouldn't just last as long as a car?

 

ya i think its possible to hit 50,000, but 100k.. hmm.. i dont know, im at 10,080 and it still runs greeaaaaaaat!

 

KLR650's and KLX250's are not exact replicas of each other by any means, but the KLR's are more prolific in numbers and have been out longer. There are similarities between the two to possibly draw some conclusions. While there are exceptional cases on the low and high end of the spectrum before needing internal engine work on the KLR650, 50,000 miles seems to be a median number. I think the higher rpm of the KLX will lower that mileage, and it will probably be the valves that need attention first. I'd be impressed to see a KLX go beyond 30,000 miles without truly needing to opened up.

That said, I just read an article of an 86 year old woman who is the original owner of a 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente with over 500,000 miles without block, piston, ring, or head work. That's freakin' amazing.

 

just past 15,000 on my way over to catalina, should be past 16,000 by the end of the month.

I just passed 31,000 kms, and she is still running strong. I ride it like a mad man to and from work every day, and she never complains. This bike is an 01 model, by the way, so it's been around a little while.

I dont know if it should last as long as a car. More fireings per cyl per mile in my estimation.
I would say for easy math purposes estimate average overall speed to be say 30mph which gives you a 2min mile. Estimate 5000rpm avererage(may be high until you average in the time idling that is not clicking up the miles) thats 10,000explosions per mile. So in 100,000miles that would be something like 1 billion explosions.

I would estimate a car would have a little less as both running and idle RPMS are lower on average and most high milage cars get there on highway miles so the average speed is probably higher.
