Where to buy the HMF slip on?

The Quiet Core costs $20. So, in essence, it's free to members of the HMF Engineering forums.
It's a piece of cake to put the quiet core in. Took me all of 3 minutes to figure it out, without reading the directions. Probably would have taken longer if I took the time to read the directions.
You can installed the quiet core with a spark arrestor, or a spark arrestor or leave both out.
Quite flexible.
Perhaps this weekend it's time to do the "Flange Mod" and then "Bolt-R-On!"

Does get just a bit noisy - deep throaty sound - without it. Of course, I'm not into loud exhaust!

Looks nice Marty. I'm following your progress on this project. I'm thinking of going the same route you did. Post some pics when you get that bad boy on the bike.

Im getting used to the growl, definatly a change from all the other choked down dual sports I've ridden!
The funny thing is to cover the exhaust while the bike is idling to warm up... I had to cover the entire opening up to make it 'sound' like the stock exhaust! It was definatly NOT flowing...

Go back, look at the opening of the stock muffler, compared it with the diameter of the stock headpipe then try to tell us all again where the bike is being "choked."

By now if you have one (one of the FMF or HMF, whatever the brand slip-ons) and got it installed on your bike you're probably feeling all warm and tingly inside about your bike, maybe you've rejetted. But guess what, it still isn't breathing like it should. The oem header pipe isn't a machinists' best work. Take it off, look inside. And as Forrest Gump would say, "That's all I got to say about that".

tremor- OK, you don't believe me about the header pipe choking the KLX 250/300. That's okay it's your bike. That's the reason why people who own the KLX 300R replace the header pipe and keep the stock muffler (removing the buttplug albeit) because it has been proven to make as much or more power than some slip-ons. Sure the KLX 250S' muffler chokes it also, I never said it didn't. It has a catalytic converter inside for petesake. Sure you need to rip it off your bike asap, but you also need to pitch the header pipe.

What I'm saying is backed-up by numbers as well. An independent testing firm in Japan ran before/after tests on a wide variety of slip-ons and full exhaust systems. The average gain from any slip-on was about 2HP. The gains from a wide variety full exhaust sytems were between 2.5 and 3HP. As an example, your BG EvoX yielded just over a 3HP gain...not bad. We're talking rear wheel HP as measured on a dyno. So, I think it's safe to say that, with a decent aftermarket full exhaust, 2/3 of your gain is from the muffler while the remaining 1/3 comes from the headpipe. I think changing the headpipe on the 300R might have a bit more effect because the larger displacement moves more air.

Thanks Marty, I am not into a loud exhaust either. Just looking for a better sounding exhaust note (not too loud) and a little proformance..[sm=smiley20.gif]
