I have noticed there are "rear foot pegs" on my 2009 KLX-250S. I thought they are for carrying kid or dwarf? I removed them, but there maybe some useful function that I don't know?

I kept the rear footpegs on both of my bikes, but only for in case of emergency (i.e. if my riding partner's bike broke down and we had to ride double). They would definitely look better without the pegs. I can't imagine too many people riding double on the KLX, but then again, my parents, who are both over 65 years old and both weigh around 150lbs. ride double on my dad's TW200 from time to time! When they were still in their 50's, my mom would ride on the back of the TW on trails! She was a real trooper!

 

The best use for the rear pegs is to make stand up wheelies a lot easier to do..

 

I kept my rear foot pegs.....................................in a box with the rest of the useless stuff that I removed.

 

My 10 yr old son can fit on the back pretty well, but I wouldn't try and fit anybody bigger on the back

 

Rear pegs was a prerequisite for me, so I could ride with my wife on the back. We don't do cross-country trips, but she's always up for rides around town and especially when we're camping.

Last I checked, the KLX250S is a dual-sport bike. If I had wanted straight Enduro, I would have bought one.

 

CL will be the first to tell you that DavidR is a much more qualified source for wheelie instructions...but he does require an ice cream stand to be nearby during the teaching process.

 

I used to think the rear pegs on the KLX were useless until I got a Cycleracks rack. It mounts to them.

 

Yeah I'm no wheelie mastah, but it's a combo of all of the above. Once you get to the balance point it's mostly throttle I think... But getting up to that point I use body weight and throttle combo.

And the rear pegs are good for smaller passengers. I ferried my KLX to an island and rode around with the wifey all day. Had a milk crate strapped to the luggage rack with a cushion for her

It works out.

 

My wife and I can ride together although the klx does protest a bit. LOL Here is one with me and my 9 year old (now almost 15)




and I got a second set for a gas carrier system.
