Talking What slip-on/header is the best? Airbox free mod?

motorcycle-superstore.com has a big gun evo r header/muffler combo for not a lot of money. I checked out some reviews about Big Gun stuff and they weren't that great. I don't want real loud and I don't want it to fall apart.

FMF website is the best as far as layout and funcionality goes. A Q4 and powerbomb setup isn't cheap though.

There seem to be so many companies making slipons, I'm not sure what to look for. I figure if I get the muffler, might as well get the header too. How much of a performance increase will I see with a FMF Q4 and a Powerbomb header? I don't have any mods, just running stock right now. I would definitely rejet of course, and possibly consider changing sprockets. However I heard that a new header/muffler combo along with rejetting is the easiest way to see a few extra HP. How much extra HP are we looking at? I don't want something that's super loud...it's obnoxious if you're not on a track.

Also, if I remove the airbox cover, do I need to do ANYTHING else with that or is it just a free mod. What do I need to look out for after removing the cover besides getting junk in there?

Also, would you recommend a newbie adjust the fuel screw? I thought it was just exposed and a quick turn would do it, but apprantly I've got to remove the entire carb?

Sorry for the triple question in 1 post...Trying to be like a sponge here but sometimes I'm the kid in class who won't put their hand down!

I'm more than happy with my HMF slip-on with the Quiet Core insert - good price (probably the least expensive of the lot), excellent quality and sounds great.

Cool Well, you're not the smart kid if you're waving your hand around...

In Gary Bailey's "how to win motocross", he states that you should adjust your carb jetting, your sprocket, and your suspension until "you can can run at full rpm in any gear, in any terrain".

Granted, that's a heck of a lot to ask, but... The dyno jet kit will get your carburetor where it needs to be, rich is better - nobody blew up their engine running rich. Chances are that you, like me, can't run wide open throttle (WOT) in sixth with the 14t sprocket. So, try the 13t. Then, you may be able to run WOT, if not, try some different jets. Once you can WOT on ANY TERRAIN (c'mon really, are you Bob Hannah, or Mouse at Baja), then adjust your suspension. I don't get why so many people spring for a big can or the aftermarket exhaust when they can't ride the hell of the bike they've got.

I agree. Just that I have no idea how to set the suspension properly for a 200lb rider, probably 210 with all gear on. The owner's manual isn't especially helpful. I should probably take it to the dealer and have them do it.

I can tear apart a computer or a video camera and it'll work after I put it back together. I can even do IKEA furniture!

But seriously, I do have basic mechanical knowledge. But I hate it when there are really poor instructions for things. Then I get stuck. I've got those threads bookmarked but there is no way I can do this just from those threads and pictures. I'm thinking I should get the suspension set properly first before I do anything. Got any threads about setting suspension?

How will the 13t sprocket affect highway cruising speed? Will I have to change it again if I want to put 17 inch wheels on?

13-tooth will kill your road-ability. BigGun EvoX full is the bomb. I had one and it makes absurd power and sounds friggin sweet. No one has had documented problems with the BigGun EvoX for the KLX. they fit like a glove and look great. other pipes do not fit the bike well and look very large. the Muzzy is a good pipe as well but doesn't fit as well as the BG. check out motorcycleparts.biz, they sell the BigGun for $380- it's where I got mine.
there has been one pipe on this site that has documented the most power gains of any pipe for the KLX, and that is the BigGun EvoX with the Muzzy a very close second. btw, an FMF full powerjoke pipe will set you back nearly $600. just my opinion.
