RE: what protective gear do you wear on the street?
HJC Motocross helmet, Scott goggles (green of course)
Shift gloves
Dr. Martin 8 eye boots (for now), Fox Trackers for the dirt.
Tour Master Jett Jacket
I need some riding pants. Any suggestions? I wear a pair of Carhart work pants for riding now but would like something a little thicker in the future.
Ryan.

Here's a couple of links on some ridin pants at some good prices..
http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1...ONL_0160-028_G
http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1...AR_3010-0031_G I like these ones because they look and feel like regular jeans, but they are reinforced.

[sm=smiley20.gif] Full face helmet
[sm=smiley20.gif] Heavy over-the-ankle hiking boots with steel toes
[sm=smiley20.gif] MX gloves
[sm=smiley20.gif] MX Jersey over a T-shirt
[sm=smiley20.gif] Goggles (if its more than just a couple blocks, or on the highway -- I already wear glasses or sunglasses)
Basically, the philosophy is pretty simple:
Anybody ride with a chest protector while trail riding? I know they're mostly used for protecting MX riders from rocks and roost, but I've also read that they offer trail riders protection from getting a punctured lung. (Maybe it would have helped those 2 guys from the video in the other thread, I dunno.)
I haven't had any rocks thrown at me while trail riding behind somebody (and I don't think I throw any myself ... yet, but workin' on it!!!). I'm wondering how much protection they offer for your general trail riding mishaps - at least avoiding broken ribs and collar bones, but ideally reducing the severity of getting your wind knocked out.
Any comments for or against? Any product recommendations?

RE: what protective gear do you wear on the street?
Well just got back from camping and we stopped and picked up a couple of Feildsheer jackets with the build in armor and a million pockets, my wife got the Congo Sport blue and black, and I got the Hydro Tour. They are both really nice jackets, and offer a lot of protection in the elbows, the back and the shoulders. And with all them pockets, who needs a backpack.
Here's a link to the wife's jacket, http://www.fieldsheer.com/web2006/PR...sport-blue.htm
And here's mine. http://www.fieldsheer.com/web2006/PR...TOUR-BALCK.htm

When I ride - street or dualsporting, I wear a helmet, motorcycle boots, motorcycle gloves, armored jacket and armored pants of some sort.
Many folks think that might be uncomfortable, but I still think it a lot less bothersome than a skin graft!
My armored jackets range from a Joe Rocket Phoenix up to and including a Darien jacket.
Remember this; you are on the motorcycle to protect it in the event of a crash! Wear protective gear when riding.
