Thanks everyone for your replies, I'm pretty sure I've got everything cleaned and cleared up now. I ended up having some thin wire laying around, so I was able to prod around with it. I let the carb soak in cleaner for an hour or so and took a carb cleaner aerosol and completely blew everything out and made sure the jets were functioning like they should. I'm going to drop the carb back on tomorrow, I'll let you all know how it turns out.
