well, my KLX just sold about a half hour ago. a guy from norther IA bought it for $4200. obviously I'm extremely happy and proud that my bike brought that amount. I've already got the $500 deposit so I can't foresee anything falling through. I called the Husky dealer in Omaha yesterday and they stil have one TE250 and 2 TE450's. I'm still torn. I don't think I'll ever use the 450's full power and I'm pretty small. The TE250 cranks out around 35 rear wheel horse and to me, that sounds likea ton for my 150 lbs. They said I can ride both of them. Right now though, I'm thinking the 250 is going to be the choice. I really wish I could plate a WR though. I like the more dealer network, but hear from many threads that it is a real pooch like it's 450 brother in stock form. I'm gonna call a couple Yamaha dealers here in a minute to talk to them about plating a WR in Iowa. Anyways, just wanted to let you all know that I no longer own a KLX.

yeah, i know. you are right. i will ride both of them to decide. i don't need sick amounts of power, just enough to blip and the front end is up. but the extra torque for gearing it higher for road use would be nice on the 450.
btw, i've called nearly every dealer in IA and MN, and they're almost dumbfounded when I mention a WR. I have to tell them what it is. I can't understand why. One said they've only sold one ever. Maybe it's not that popular around the midwest. Getting it plated may be more trouble than it is worth as well. Seems no one has done this either they can tell me about. Even if I could do it, it sounds like locating a WR may be just as much trouble. Ebay has a dealer in WI that is selling them for less than msrp. I think it's gonna be a a Husky though. They just look tough.

Congrats on the sale and good luck making your choice. You mentioned gearing up for the road - one thing to consider with the Husky TE is the narrow gearbox. If you look closely at the ratios, its 1st through 6th gear spans about the same ratio as the KLX's 1st through 4th or 5th. So while it has 6 gears, the tranny is narrow - which is great for woods competition, but not so hot for the road in that it will either be buzzy at highway speeds, or 1st will be geared awefully high for the trails. I'm not ******* the TE, they are fantastic bikes, but that is one aspect of them that I didn't care for and is hard / next to impossible for us mere mortals to change, i.e., without splitting the case and chaing out the gear stacks. This is totally personal preference and riding style dependent so the tight ratio gearbox may not be an issue for you, but thought I'd mention it just in case. It's great the dealer will let you ride before you buy.
Also, not saying which one you should get, that's also a personal preference thing, but I'm awefully glad I got a 450. I also realize now that a 525 would have probably been fine, too, but I don't think I would have gotten as good a deal on a 525 as the 450. Besides, I can always do that if/when I need to rebuild the head in a few years, though, the 525 cylinder and piston is a bolt-on upgrade. The nice thing about the bigger bores is that you don't have to eek out every bit of performance from other components such a pipe / carb, etc. These bikes already have good carbs and pipes and they've got plenty of power even without a bunch of aftermarket parts. But if the Husky is anything like the KTM, being street legal it's probably jetted lean, so expect to rejet at least. Also my KTM was geared really tall, apparently to meet drive-by sound requirements in EU, so a few sprockets were in order as well.
Good luck!

Congratulations on getting the KLX sold. I live an hour away from Omaha and have been thinking about slipping over and checking out the Husky's. Can't really justify a new bike right now but wanted to see them in person. They look cool and sounds like they perform well. I'd like to hear about your new purchase and see some good pics when you get a chance.
