Default Weave

No not the kind your girl friends wear, LOL J/K My bike has developed a slight lean/weave at speeds of 10 to 30. I try and hold the bars tight, but the bike leans back and forth. Sorry I can't describe it any better than that. I talked to bryantjt today, and he suggested that I check my tire pressure, and I realized that I hadn't checked it since the poker run last month, (I know bad deej) They were both around 17 lbs, so I bumped them up to 25 each, and went for a ride, it seemed to be a little better, but still did it. Should I run it up to the full 35 lbs and see if that does it?

I am getting tired and don't know if I can bear it any longer. Ok that was sick, but the picture was funny.

Just a thought - check that your back tire is straight, i.e., that your snails are both set to the same notch on either side and that the back wheel is seated back against them tightly. If either of those are as described, could be your thrust vector is a bit askew.

You haven't dropped your bike hard enough to bend the frame or swingarms have you? It would take a pretty hard hit so you'd know it for sure!

GRRRRRR!!! I had a whole post written, and it just disappeared.[:@] Anyway I'm too tired to re-type it all, but the notches are the same, and I tightened the chain one notch today, but noticed when the bike was on the stand I spun the front wheel and it seems to rub a little on one spot, but I don't think that's it or else it would be doing it at higher speeds, but maybe some sort of harmonics balance thing.??[&:]

Well if I spin the tire it goes around like 3 times and stops in the same spot, Its rubbing on the caliper, but that's not really that uncommon. Or is it?

No, I think that is pretty normal.

I'd focus on the last change you made which was the chain tension. Is it possible it's too tight? When I first got my bike I thought the chain hung too loose and even asked the dealer about it when I got it, but it does look loose when it is correctly tensioned. You should have 5.5 to 6.5 cm of distance between the bottom of the chain and the top of the swingarm when you pull the chain up to remove slack. Measure at the back of the black plastic slipper - where the screw is. The diagram in the service manual shows the measurement at an agle that is about parallel with the mud guard. The manual says this measurement should be done with the bike on its side stand.

Oh sorry Brian, the chain adjustment was after the weave today, and actually it seems to have been happening for a few weeks now. No I adjusted the chain added air to the tires and oiled the chain and then went for a ride and it was still feeling like I was always doing this small lean back and forth. Weird.

Ah, ok. Well in that case, if your bike is up on your lift with the rear wheel off the ground, does it have any side to side play or anything? Can you remember anything that changed before this started happening? I added a rim lock to my front and rear tires a while back and noticed some pretty serious vibration, but not at the speeds you are talking about.

I hope you fix it reel soon.
