to increase night visibility? why else would the govt require them? I still have mine. I think every bit helps. I even put 3m reflective tape on my top box.

Don't really about the gubmit. Do care about me being seen!!

Have extra reflective here and there. I have some stuff that looks black but reflects bright white.

I guess if you are coasting down the road with all the lights off you might be visible with the reflectors ...
