Default WABDR - Cashmere to Twisp

This past weekend, my wife and I ran Section 4 and the beginning of Section 5 up to Twisp, leaving our house in Snohomish Friday morning. We had lunch at Starbucks in Leavenworth and dried out from the rain over the pass. We then took Eagle Creek Rd out of Leavenworth to FS-7520 and caught the trail at French Corral. From there we backtracked to the summit of Chumstick, then headed to Ardenvoir, had supper at Coopers, and headed out towards Chelan. We camped Friday night at the summit of whatever that ridge is that overlooks Lake Chelan. Somewhere along the way up that ridge, Robin's sleeping bag came out it's straps, and neither of us noticed until much later when we were setting up camp. So that first night was a cold one. We slept in our clothes with our sleeping pads under us and the one remaining bag as a blanket over us, which worked okay, but neither of us slept very well that night.

Next morning just as we were finishing up breaking camp, two riders (Hayshaker and Erndog from ADVRider) came along and ask us if we had lost a sleeping bag... Yes as a matter of fact we had!

From there we headed down into Chelan, through the jungle. Had lunch at a coffee shop in Chelan, debating whether to turn around and go home the way we came, or continue on to Twisp. We ended up deciding to head north for an hour or so and then decide. An hour turned into 3, and by then we were only another hour to Twisp, so that is where we ended up. Had dinner at the Blackbird Cafe, spent the night at the Sportsman Motel, and then came home over Highway 20 to Rockport, then dropped down to Darrington and took the Mountain Loop Highway to Highway 9.

We had an awesome time, and can't wait to do it again, maybe the southern half next time!

Here are a few pics from our weekend:

That looks like a great adventure. Those mountains make me wish we had some like that on this side of the Mississippi.

Thanks! I lived in NC for 30 years before moving to WA, so I can relate... on the other hand, I often miss the sunshine that NC gets!

It sure does, and most years by October I'm ready for it to come back. But about April I'm ready for it to be done...
