Veterans Day ride and camping (LOTS OF PICTURES! Dialup beware!)
To observe Veterans Day I usually take a camping trip with a few close friends so that we can get away from it all and talk about good times and bad times. This year I was to meet a buddy with his bike and we were going to camp on a dear friends 1000 acre ranch here in North Texas.
To make a long story short, he never showed up. I decided I'd go solo and enjoy my camping and riding. I had a great time! Here's some photos.
Loaded and ready to leave the house.

Not even out of town yet and there's delays...

Truck unloaded and campsite setup.

Friday night and I'm wondering where my friend is. No cell phones work out here in the sticks.

Took a ride down to the gate, about 6 miles from my campsite, to hang a lightstick on the gate. I was giving up hope that my friend was going to be able to make it.

Self portrait by the firepit. I ate well. Had a steak and a can of baked beans with a few cold beers. Yummy. Settled down for a chilly night under the stars. Saw several shooting stars that would light up the sky as they went. Very cool.

I got up around 7:00 and made some breakfast. Ummm.... Bacon.

Headed into the nearest town so that I could make a few calls and found out that all was well with my buddy. He just had to work late and was bummed that he couldn't make it. Oh well. I told him that I'll have fun without you!
The 'Fire Hall' is the social center of Crowell, TX. Action, action, action! Until sundown, of course.

Roadblock!

Stampede! They ran back through the hole in the fence where they escaped from.
The Pease River in Foard County, Texas. Very salty water.

Rest of the ride photos...

You said "no cell Phones" Thats the good part no phones, tv, radio, comercials and crap like that. Those moments alone with mother nature are very enlightening to say the least. It is good to ride with someone but it looks like you did fine winging it by yourself.. Bacon is my favorite.... and those roads are cool.
It is good you had a chance to ride as some of our fellow members get stuck for months without riding..
Thanks for the report I know it takes about an hour or so to write.
Rock on.
BTW HK one of my favorite too I think mp5sp2 anyway full auto supresssed.

Hey I landed at a dirt runway in Crowell,TX in a Beech 18 about 25 years ago. Just about took out some powerlines at the end of the runway near dark. We saw them just in time. Looks like a great campout. I miss camping already it is raining and snowing in the higher county now , at least no more dust for awhile, keep the photos comin.
