Default valves

my 09 250s has about 20,000 kms on it now and I don't know if the valves clearance was ever checked on it before. when I am riding it now around 4000-4500 rpm range I get a little tick out of the motor and was wonder if I should check them now or not and if I do I am going to get a shim kit but I cant seem to find one for the klx 250si was wondering if it is the same for the kx 250f or not

I would verify the valve clearance because of the unknown service history-just check it.
You may also want to do a search on the cam chain tensioner-it is a known culprit of top end noise.

this cam chain tensioner what do you have to do with it to get rid of the noise replace it? and do you have to strip the engine down to change it or is it something simple?

Changing the cam chain tensioner is easy. Member KLX678 makes an aftermarket manual cam chain tension adjuster. Quality piece that should be considered if your automatic adjuster is failing (which is absurdly common).

I agree with the above recommendation that you should check valve clearance.

Is it mandatory to remove the CCT when checking valve clearance?

You would need to remove the tensioner only if you need to remove the cams to adjust valve clearance-no need if you are just measuring clearance.

Just for clarification...
You can remove the cams with the KCCT installed(just backed off all the way), but the factory CCT has to come out, but for a valve check you don't have to mess with either.
That alone was enough for me to get one of Mark's tensioners, besides the fact that it works correctly.
