hey ya'll, here's a crazy idea- give your local motorcycle shop a call and see if they are willing to trade shims with you. quite often they are, at least up here in Canada
I took in my two exhaust shims that were 3.00 and traded 'em for a 2.90 and a 2.93 (they didn't have two 2.90's)
Bike runs better, starts easier and doesn't tick anymore. Did mine at 10000km

I would trade if I had any to begin with. I dont mind paying $8 a piece only needing a few and to have the right tools for the job in the future. I just cant see paying $80 for a huge set I will never use beyond this application.
On ebay or wherever you might find these shims is there an industry term for the style needed for this? I work for Grainger and more than likely can get them through that avenue just need to know specifically what to look for. Shim is a very broad term in my line of work.

It is a specific shim. They are hardened and are specific diameters, I forget what the KLX uses (7.48mm?) and then you will need to know the thickness of the one you need in order to correct the clearance gap. I think all of this info is here on KF,you just have to find it.
As far as I know, they are motorcycle specific, so not sure if Grainger deals in them. Also, I agree, I wouldn't pay for a whole $80 set. You will never use them all, and you may use more of one size than you get in the set.
