nah, the castrol syntec isn't, i think it was a long time ago when it came out. remember the two lab guys with 2 engines running without oil and the one with syntec didn't seize? Mobil1 is, but there are others too.

I NEVER said MOBIL1 was the only syn. or even that it was THE BEST.. I don't know enough about other brands to know what their make-up is- but I do know that Castrol is more marketing than anything else.. Also you can buy the cheapest crappiest oil in the world and it can he API, Sl.SM or whatever- that is like the absolute minimum standard out there.. like YUGO is/was considered a car.. but I wouldn't use it.. bottom line is I'm a freak- and I like the piece of mind syn. provides.. one last "interesting" thing I like to quote- I was at a Cat- engine plant and one of the enigineers said that their engines would run forever OR until .00whatever amount of dirt gets in it..so that is the key- keep your engine clean!!!!

Defintion of Synthetic Oil according to wikipedia can be found at http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_oil. Back in the day only those that were in Group IV were "true" Synthetics. Mobil 1 (automotive) is Group IV. Many Group III oils can leagally claim to be full synthetic. I don't know anything about Group V oils, but I've never seen any. I don't know if the Mobil 1 4-Stroke oil is Group IV, but that's what I use...If you read and believe the AMZOIL website, the best oil to buy is AMZOIL. I know they were one of the first (1972 I think). I know it's good stuff (used it in a really tight '73 Chevy), but it's hard to find and very expensive.

It appears that Mobil 1 retains its viscosity longer than the others. I have not tested this, others did and this is what they found amongst other things. Read on and judge for yourself. I run Mobil 1 in everything I own.
