Lightbulb Turn signal swap out question

I bought some universal K&S signals (not LED) to replace my giant orange beacons. The wires on the replacements are too short to reach the plug connector for the rears and the replacement male connectors are larger than the stock female recepticles. So, even if the replacement signal wiring would reach, I couldn't just plug them in.

Question: could I cut the stock wiring above the plug in connection and then splice the replacement signal wiring to it?

I could use shrink tubing and tape to cover the splice and protect it from water.
Would this work?

No problem. Shrink tubing is best. Easy-peesy.
