KDX200 is a great bike for the money. I have had mine since 2005, it is plated although it is not a good streetbike. I have the PC platinum pipe and spark arrestor setup and boyesen power reeds and a rejet. The following site is great for getting your bike setup. Hop Ups Page

The KDX is my go to bike when off road. It feels like cheating compared to the KLX.

A little fun in the desert yesterday. I'm on the KDX220 and we had a KLX300 in an otherwise field of blue. Switched out from woods/torque to desert/rev pipe with noticeable upper end performance improvement but still need to switch out the carbs from PWK33 to the PWK35.

Looks good! What kind of fuel consumption are you getting out of the smoker? I've been toying with the idea of getting a ring-ding to add to the stable but it seems like most guzzle fuel and that would be a handicap for some of my routes.

Good question on mileage.

I've had it out four times this year and it's consistently pulling about 17 mpg or a little better. I thought this was terrible but it seems normal compared to what other riders are reporting over on kdxrider.net. One rider claimed to get 100 miles out of a tank (2.9 gallons) once, but that was a definite anomaly and he was riding forest roads easy throttle in high gears IIRC. Some of them say they can get 60 miles out of a tank (20-24 mpg) on a regular basis.

I tried to ride much more conservatively on this ride with more throttle control and lower rpms. In addition to the different pipe mentioned above, I dropped the main jet down a size. It's still quite blubbery on the needle, low rpm, partial throttle indicating rich condition (clip in the middle / 3rd position which is stock). There was a little spooge out the pipe after this ride, but not much. The dang thing was covered in spooge when I bought it (jetted stock). Stock pilot is a #42 and I have either the #35 or #38 in there now and it's still a rich on the low circuit (air screw about 2.5 turns out). We rode a lot of sand washes in lower gears, rarely getting into 4th except on a few more open areas. So I expect that with improved carb tuning and tall gear riding I should approach 20 mpg or a bit better. But that's not what this bike is for; it's the light-weight gnarley-trail beat-up machine.

This is not me. Quite the opposite. This guy is a very skilled rider doing some of the same trails, and more, that we did in my very first post above ^. We are having a very strange winter here and he just rode trails this March that would otherwise be very deep in snow this time of year.

Here's yesterday's ride. We do the bottom of the canyon wash seen in the above video at 4:00+. The mapped trail goes through, but you'd have to be a professional to make it up the canyon waterfall at 10:15. Start at around 2:00 or so for the canyon. My riding buddy loses his front brakes near the beginning of the day, then breaks a clutch cable after turning around in the canyon.
