Default TM36 and Acerbis tank

I know I've seen this issue addressed somewhere, but I've searched this site and others for a couple of days and can't for the life of me relocate it. I'm considering the TM36 pumper on my '06 KLX250S with the 300 jug. I've read jetting and fitment threads 'til I'm crosseyed, but I was studying both TM33, TM34, and TM36 threads to decide which carb to go with, so I can't remember where I saw mention of the Acerbis tank. I think I'm going with the TM36 for my application...300 jug, fully opened airbox screen and top, full Muzzy exhaust. I thought I recalled seeing some info and pics of the Acerbis tank needing an aluminum spacer under the fuel petcock to clear one of these carbs. Also I can't remember seeing anything about the carb clearing the fuel tank. The 36 seems to have a smaller, more compact cable pull wheel. I notice my Acerbis tank seems to be about the same as the stock tank as far as height goes at the petcock level over the carb. It really sticks down in the front frame rails over the head, but that's not close to the carb.

Anyone remember or know how the Acerbis tank fitment works with the TM34 or the TM36...or have a link to a thread?

Well, sure enough, about 10 minutes after posting this, I did find one post from an old thread where Kawi-Wawi had to grind on the throttle wheel to get clearance with an Acerbis tank. You don't use this portion of the wheel for anything, so that's good to hear. However, anyone see a thread about this spacer for the fuel petcock that I referred to?...or have any other sources/threads about the TM36 and an Acerbis tank? It just goes to show that when you can't find something, if you post a question about it, you're sure to find something on your own in short order...LOL!

It's valve handle faces a different direction, and the fuel outlet is inline with fuel handle. I guess that's why Kawi-Wawi's TM36 seems to clear the carb. I guess I don't need that spacer. I'm guessing, assuming that the petcock in that Planet KLX writeup is the OEM unit?

I'm assuming it is the OEM KLX300R unit? it is slightly different from the OEM KLX250S peacock. The 250S one mounts to the frame and the lever faces the opposite way, otherwise the sizes and the shape looks similar.

Well, went ahead and ordered the carb today from my old shop I used to work at. I was skeptical of this size carb on my 300, but after reading hours of posts about this carb on all sizes of KLX, it seems it works quite well. I'm impressed by the additional tuning elements this carb has over the TM33/34 models. I also have a few different jets and a couple of different needles coming, but it looks like some already plowed a good bit of the ground for setting up this carb...Neil Apples, Mooredan, and several others. It almost sounds close to plug-and-play with all the good work that several serious posters have done.

I'm interested to hear how this works out for you. I've had a used TM36-68 in a box for quite a while now, waiting for me to have time to install & tune. I was planning on going the Kawi-wawi route and grind the bell crank...but maybe you'll find a better way. I ditched the push cable long ago as well, but this way wouldn't work for those who want to keep it.

I installed TM36 with IMS tank and didnt have to grind anything. However OEM throttle cables are too short for this setup and I had to order longer ones from Motion Pro.

Yeah, the throttle cable length seems to be inconsistent with different bikes. I have a low bar and no risers, so I'm hoping I'll be one of those with a cable that will reach. On Kawi-Wawi's grinding with the Acerbis tank, I'm definitely not concerned with removing some material off the wheel if necessary. You only need the lower cable connection and just about everything on the top appears to be unnecessary for this application. And no slam on him, but I'm going to try to make any material removal a little cleaner.

I had that carb on for a while and didn't have to do any grinding either. I already had longer cables due to 4" of handlebar rise.
