Default tire rubing

hi guys

i need some suspension help. i lowered the rear with longer dog bones about

1 1/2 in,and the front about the same. i just put a new k-760/120/100-18

on the rear, hooks up great in the sand and soft dirt. i went out yesterday

a long run of sand to get to the verry tight single track. lots of woops, hills

logs now it starts to sound funny. wierd scuffing sounds, i thought i might

have picked up a tree branch or something. stop to look , nothing , on again

same thing i can here it over the q-4. looked again and i find tire rub marks

9in up the green inner fender to the rivets??. anybody have this problem??.

i weight in at 156 so i dont think im to heavy for it??. any tips tricks,

something i can try a $1000 shock is not an option right now. i might half

to go back to the stock bones for now, until i get this sorted out.

any tips would be great.

ps i made my own t handle for the fuel/air screw no more compleat teardown

to adjust it. i tried to put some pic's up on the group album but it wont

take the pasword? cant get in.

thanks

Dang....I weigh 230 and was as high as 260 and I have never had a tire rub. Have you adjusted the rear spring and the other adjustments on the suspension? It really helps...although re-springing is what really needs to be done. So I'm told.

Default rubing

a 100+100 18 tire will take care of it.

Two things that you did to cause it. 1. Lowered the suspension. 2. Bigger tire than stock. The stock tire is about a 120/90-18, 100/100-18, or 4.60-18. Best suggestion to fix the problem is to get a stiffer rear spring. Or a cheaper (freebie) by-pass solution is to increase the damper setting.

The problem with longer links is that the whole arc of travel in your suspension has been moved the same amount. If you lowered the bike 1 1/2" your bottoming out point has been raised up in the rear fender area the same amount. Travel limiting spacers in the shock are the correct way to lower your bike without the problems you are having.

Default rub

i spent yesterday tearing the hole *** end apart, right down to the

swingarm and cleaned all the bearings regreaseed everything, man did it need

it. a little rust on the tubes that run in the needle bearings, cleaned them

up with a fine scotchbrite pad. i put it all back together with the oem bones.

got it off the stand [crap] the kick stand is 1 1/2 in to short. i forgot how

tall it was,now i'm tippy toeing . half to get a new stand. wear would i

find travel limiting spacers,do i need to rebuild the shock ? .now back to

stock height its a little wierd to be back up in the air.

thanks

The shock will have to be torn down to install the travel limiting spacer, so its a good time to rebuild it at the same time. Call the shock rebuilders that are closest to you to find out if they can lower your bike the amount you want.
