Dual sport tires are a compromise and a sacrifice. IMO, get tires that perform where its most important for your riding preference. Then learn how to deal with them elsewhere. For me, dirt is more important so a TM II up front and a trials tire on back are what's on now. Could have used some studded snow tires yesterday

WestOZ - nice vids. Thanks for posting!

Great video. I'm looking forward to helping a mate out this year at the Finke.
Just spent the CHOGM long weekend riding around Bridgetown. Rode trail all the way from Perth. Only one puddle of note on the way and still plenty of dust according to the guys behind me.

Seems like there has been a fair bit of rain, but most of it seems to have run off into the rivers around the areas I ride. Wasn't able to cross The Blackwood River when we were down there, too high, but the trails our guide showed us were far from muddy, still pretty dry by all accounts. The area around Bridgetown was so green though, so I know they've had some water. ADV "no name rally" 2011 was the occasion. Neilaction wrote a little RR.

Ummm...sure.... still alive after three Trackmasters and over 10,000 miles of using them tho. I don't pretend the KLX is a racer on the pavement ....seems to help.

Kenda Washougal Sticky 90~100 front and a Washougal Sticky 100~100 rear.

I am trying a 120~100 Trackmaster now to see how it lasts. The only thing I can tell with the TM so far is that it moves around a little more on the grated bridges.

Good to know...have one in the garage waiting for install as soon as this trials tire gets too tired. It's close.

I find with the TM's that what you gain in dirt ya lose a percentage on street. Keep the speeds conservative on the winding stuff. If starting at an intersection that requires a turn.....don't crack it to her.....it will slide out. A quick roll back on the throttle regains composure. Braking....not a big deal. Rear doesn't provide much anyways. Highway speeds.....no problem. They do tend to get noisy on the pavement as they wear.I get around 5000 kms....3500 miles out of a TM. Dont be much left. But the traction I get in wet grass, woodsy stuff is well worth the little extra conservative street riding......

Just gotta do more trail riding.....which is what the KLX is mean to be.

I have TM's front and back. Put 1000miles on them this year. I ride that bike everywhere around town, some stints of 15-20 each way. I've never had a real problem yet with the rear sliding out. You will notice stopping sucks with them, but probably not any worse than other DOT knobbies. Off road they are good, a huge improvement on the two tracks over the stockers. That's what I run, I like them and have treated me well. I am switching to a more street oriented tire, probably the stockers for my long hauls of 100-200 miles each way trips, but when i get home the TMs are goin back on.

That is one of the reasons I don't think the TMII should be a "DOT" tire. I think the regulators that put the "DOT" designation dropped the ball. From what I understand it is a dot tire is because it will not tear up the asphalt due to its soft compound and not because it is a safe tire. It is a great tire for off-road, nothing more.

I have ran full off-road tires (Michelin S-12 and Maxxis Desert IT) on the street and they handle much better than the TMII on and off-road
