Has anyone heard of some sort of crash bars or guards that would prevent the bike from getting torn up every time it goes down. It seems like you could mount some sort of roll bar towards the rear that would take the impact instead of the plastic parts. Does such a thing exist?

Probably not. Thats the peril of riding a dirt bike.

http://www.cycleracks.com/ Look under KLX250s (obviously) they have a big rack with side bars that bolt down by the passenger pegs. I bet this would help in a crash and it gives you more places to grab on when lifting the bike. It is definatley fugly as hell though.

+1, the whole idea is to keep the rubber side down, and the simple act of offroad riding means that going down is just part of the equation.

That said, we buy handguards, skidplates, radplates, ad nauseum to lessen the (machinery at least) damage. Somewhere there exists the perfect compromise, but each of us must find his own.

The Cyclerack may be fugly, but it's big time functional and might just provide some protection for two ****'s - yours and the bike.

That's the guy that is paralyzed from the waist down. He needs it. And he would probably smoke all of us.

The bottom half of his set-up might be good.
That is totally bad-*** that he races, and cool that they let him.
FWIW, I've crashed the bike at least 10-20 times(turn signals and mirrors were taken off before riding) and have had no real damage (knock on wood). The barkbusters and skid plate have taken all the real punishment.
