For me the klx was my first bike ever(my mid life crisis). It is a fantastic bike for learning how to ride on the street,Dirt trails and single trails. It is able to go anywhere the more expensive bikes can go an with a degree more comfort and virtually no maintenance. As for modding the bike i really only changed the front and rear sprocket and de-restrict the bike. Now that i have moved onto a more powerful bike i have passed it onto my 17 year old son who is having a ton of fun on it.I guess it all comes down to personal choice what you do with your bike , but what i can gather this site is about being an enthusiast for this particular bike and in general modding is all part of the fun of owning this bike

If you are a true gear head you can't leave anything alone. Its in my blood. I have done stuff to everyone of my cars, trucks, and bikes. I have to. Plus it makes it MINE when i do things to it, its not just another one off the assembly line.

Its not so bad stock but makeing something better is satisfying. I wanted better power to weight ratio. Besides isnt a KLX250s with big bore & exhaust plus jet kit still cheeper than a 450? I assume it would be if you get a new last years model for 3500 - 4K.

Yeah I'm glad I'm not in that category.

Besides who cares how fast you can go, for some of us its about exploring and having fun, as far as power goes, I weigh 258 lbs, and this bike is as fast a bike as I ever want. I sometimes think they accidentally installed a 450 engine in from the factory. Seriously!
