Tail Plate Project
Ok. Drilled, Sunk, and Tapped as needed.
HardBoard to Aluminum transition is completed.

Match drilling beats measuring every time ;P

Just in case, the little flannel pastel blue with flowers pants belong to my 10 yo daughter.
Those are not my flower pants, mine are much larger

Bottom plated is threaded plus jam nuts

Add the Rotopax mount

And an extra gallon of fuel.
I like the +40 miles, maybe more if I am not trying to thrash an old rear tire

Hey Slapdrum,
Nice work on the aluminum plate. I have the same Nomadic rack and just bought a 1 gal rotopax off ebay without the mount. My present thought is to use velcro / nylon strap to cinch the rotopax to the rack, then put a tail bag over it followed by a bungee cargo net if necessary. Did you ever try that approach before fabbing the plate to mount the roto base?
Also, how does the rotopax seal? Any leakage?
Thanks!

Straps would probably work. You may want a "bump" to keep the ropax located on the plate (just my opinion) then the straps would hold it down, while the Bump (1") keeps it located. Then start stacking away.
I have put many miles on my ropax and it does not leak.
Seal is rubber gasket and the cap has the serrated loop that requires a mechanical "unlock" (think child proof stuff") so that the cap does not vibrate loose.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will post a picture when I get it set up. For the rest of ya - I bought it from a guy on ebay (http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/rykerjas/) last night and it was shipped today. $36.95 + 9.95 shipping, not bad for $49.95 retail - if you just want the can.
As promised here are a few shots of my 1 gallon RotopaX just straped to my Nomadic rack. On top is an old school wolfman bag I got off ebay. I am gathering supplies for some minimalistic touring trips.
I am going to do a quicky day ride in Death Valley in April during our family spring break vacation. I'll have the family in tow so I can't do a lot. I think I'll send them to Scotty's Castle and meet them at a campground or hotel. Still working out the details.
This summer I will try some overnighters or weekend trips. I live in Redding so SE Oregon and NW Nevada are some areas I have in mind. Also, I want to take HWY 36 to the coast.
