Super Sherpa mods

I know - slightly off topic, but hey it's the KLX250's little cousin - the KL250 Super Sherpa.

I finally got around to putting a pumper carb and aftermarket exhaust on the wife's Super Sherpa.

It's a standard Mikuni TM33-8012. It was a perfect drop-in replacement for the stock BST34 (Mikuni) that came with the bike.
I discovered this thanks to this guy who did the same swap but on an XT225:

Here's what the bike used to look like with the stock exhaust (pretty sharp I must say).
I really like that stainless stock exhaust, but it's got a cat in it, and it's a boat anchor just like the KLX.

Here's the new carb fitted in the frame. Glad I could eliminate the old remote choke cable and now have the choke where it belongs, on the carb.

It comes with a push/pull setup, but due to space issues I had to modify the bracket for the cable assembly.
I made it much smaller and it only accepts the pull cable now.
The spring is very strong, the push cable is totally unnecessary.

Fits nicely now under the tank.

Oh yeah, and I learned an important lesson in all this.
DON'T ALLOW YOUR WIFE'S GAS TANK TO FALL OFF THE WORKBENCH AND LAND HEAD FIRST ON THE CONCRETE!
(actually I wouldn't recommend it for any gas tank)

Guess I got some body work to do, and some painting. [&:]

My friend helped me fabricate the mid-pipe. It's the stock header, and a SuperTrapp IDS2 muffler.
Maybe not quite as pretty as the stocker, but it sounds sweet and the best part...

It lofts the front wheel pretty easy now.

I haven't had a chance to take it for a good ride yet, just fooling around in the yard.

thats gonna want to pool water down to the fuel fill now - have to pull the fill cap back up out of the tank. no real easy way to fix it.

Nice job and sorry to hear about the gas tank, I would have sat there crying, but that's just me, and then on to e-bay looking for a replacement, but that's just my sickness talking.:D
