Hey guys, I know this isn't the kdx forum but I also have a klx250r so I thought some sympathy would make me feel better..have a look...


I changed the rear cog and cut the chain to suit, but dint think I put the safety clip back on[&:]and the end result is sad, I will take the engine out in the next couple days and start searching the bike wreckers around my place to see if I can get hold of a secondhand crank case. Any advice before I start the operation??? Thanx in advanced for your sympathyand advice.....

 

Ouch, it appears that the stock case saver was useless. I had a quad that I bought second hand and I noticed alot of jb weld around the front sprocket area and the case saver was missing. I figure it threw a chain and they patched it with JB. Never leaked while I owned it, although yours is a bit more severe.

Sorry bro, you'll have to settle for 50% from me. I can only offer my sympathy. I just ordered a new chain, front and rear sprockets to avoid what just happened to you. My chains usually starts making noise after about 10,000 miles, but I dont take very good care ofthem either. It's good piece of mind for me to change them that often anyway. Thanks to you, I will double check the retaining clip.

Oh man that's not good, sorry to see something like that. Yea I'm thinking of replacing my chain soon, might even go back to an o-ring chain. Good luck finding something.

Damn that sucks! After looking at Deej's diagram.....splitting that case and replacing all those bearings (provided they come out easy) makes installing a kickstart on the klx look easy....and I should know since I have done it. Judgingby the corrosion on the motor bolts, I assume its an older kdx, if so I would JB weld that sucker....ride it and see what happens. You may be good to go.

Disclaimer: My primary experience is with marine 2-smoke motors (same as bikes except the crank points straight down). You may want to try Marine-Tex instead of JB weld (Marine-Tex is awsome stuff but JB is easier to work with), it looks like the damage is in a non-load bearing /non-critical part of the case. Best of luck and post what you decide.

 

deej the bike is a 1991 kdx250, will call the dealer on Monday and the wreckers straight after. All the internals of the engine are brand new just rebuilt the whole thing, anyway will get to work on it and make it better that before. Will keep you all posted, maybe we can all learn from this. I did read some were that you should tale the case saver off because if the chain breaks and grabs it it can rip your case open as in my case...What do you all think of that idea?
