Default Stock can cat converter dump

Has anybody emptied the cat converter on a stock klx 250 / 300 muffler?

Yeah, I bought a 94 KLX muffler. Got rid of the CAT, had a removable plate, AND had a larger pipe leading into the can.

win, win, win

Pretty much what I'm doing.

What is the best way to empty the converter?

Does emptying the converter raise the noise level much?

LOL I was just being a smartass guy, I have a 2006 KLX. I meant that I bought a 1994 muffler. They were different back then. Thats when the stock HP was like 23, vs today's 18. (I also picked up the matching headpipe too)

I remember seeing a post that a guy took apart the muffler and there was no cat.

I'm pretty sure the '09 has a catalytic converter. It'd be interesting to hear a report on any performance gains / sound increase by taking a pipe and beating the junk out of the catalytic converter.

Mine is a 2006 too. I'm putting a klx 300 header and muffler. I was asking if anybody had any experience or tips about ridding the 300 can of it's converter medium and with what results.

Does anybody know if there is a cutaway view of that muffler anywhere??

The 94-current KLX250/300's off road version do not have a catalytic converter. They do have a "butt plug" that needs to be removed and is best when an aftermarket turn down tip is installed. The bottom of the exhaust page shows the cross section of the exhaust and Krizman spark arrestor.

over at the other KLX boards someone cut out the section of the bottom of the can and all it is is that entire bottom section is hollow and the pipe runs up into it and right in the middle it stops. And the gas is free to flow in there, and by its own pressure flows up into the next part where it goes into the vortex baffle style krizmen thing a ma jig, then through the buttplug. You have to see it to know what I'm talking about.

The 94's can is alot lighter than my 06

Don't forget that cat converter may be worth some cash due to the precious metals....people are actually stealing cat converters out of cars in S. Florida to pawn.

hmmmm....I got one sitting in a box..if it was worth $50 I would just laugh.
