I'm planning on getting a new 48 tooth rear sprocket, I know Alum is lighter and more expensive but does it really wear out faster and does the lesser weight really make a difference? or should I just get a good quality steel sprocket. All opinions welcome.

BTW I am planning on getting a RK XSO Series X-Ring Chain.
If you are racing you might want the aluminum. Otherwise I doubt that you will notice any difference except for the price and the wear factor. I am currently running the stock 14t on front and 48t steel on the rear w/ 110 chain from www.rockymountainatv.com (steel was $18.99 and they have an alum for $34.99 and 520 O-ring chain was $40.92) and think it offers some good gearing options as well as being the largest rear you can use on the KLX250S and keep your stock chain guard and clear the rear chain guide. With this set up you can still run short highway to the trails, or you can put on the 13t countershaft for even more trailability, or you could go to a 15t countershaft to do more dual sporting (Got the wrong 15t so I am not sure yet if it will clear the front chain guide) and use the same chain for all these gearing options. Has anyone tried a 15t countershaft yet?

I know they are way more expensive, but I went with the Sidwinder Tri-moly 49 tooth sproket for the lifetime carbon fiber teeth and the light weight aluminum body.

I round off my sprokets pretty quickly so for me, this made the most sense.

WARNING - NOT A COST EFFECTIVE OPTION - BUT A VERY HIGH QUALITY ONE....

Good stuff Dave, how much is that sprocket I couldn't find a price on the website? I saw that sprocket on a link at the ADV site, it was a good article a about chains http://www.quality-cycle.com/truth_a...cle_chains.htm

That sidewinder looks just like the stealth from the above link.

here's the website http://www.quality-cycle.com/product...#Chain_Display
At only $140.00 that is only 28 Google Eyes. Go for it I think you deserve it! [:-]

All opinions welcome? OK I think that Canada should stop dumping raw sewage in the ocean, I think cats are the best pets, even though my wife is allergic and I can't have one, I think Chinese food is the best, and I could eat it 5 days a week. I think I-Pod's and 22 inch wheels are over-rated, and I also think global warming is over exaggerated. I think using IMO in every post is being abused, and finally I think they should invent a pill that would help you with whatever is wrong with you without adding symptoms that are worse than what you have in the first place...............................oh the sprockets, whoops my bad. Uhhhhhhh I don't know, I'm still a noob.
