Default RE: starting problems

So a few more hours spent and I have narrowed it down to either the windings or the CDI...I will know by tomorrow mid day about the windings and if it is the CDI - who do I speak to about that at Kawi...anybody know the fella......the closest would be any where in Florida...?

cheers

the update on the very expensive paper weight so far that it still does not run!!!! I have checked every connection, I even got the multi meter out and found that there is no power going to the coil.... so now where do I look..?

ahhh...now I am lost?
I must ask if you checked power to the coil while the engine was turning over (you have to do that). Apologies in advance if you already know that.

If there is still no power, I woulddisconnect thelarge connector from theCDI, disconnect the blue wire from the coil, read the blue wire end to end (from coil to CDI connector) thenread the bluewire to ground tocheck fora short. If all is OK, check for power to the brown wire on the large CDI connector.

There's more to check if that's all good, but I prefer 'bite sized' chunks.

I have checked the power to the coil - nope , nothing and then intermitant weakand then nothing. The two yellow cables from the windings that charge the battery and run the ancilleries have power but the two smaller cables that leave from the windings cover and go to the CDI have nothing.....
I have checked the blues to the coil and CDI - ZERO, tomorrow I will check the brown, however I could have checked that this afternoon as I went back and forth trying to find the problem...
many thanks

The two smaller wires -if they are green/white and white/yellow- are coming from your cranshaft sensor. That voltage is most likely pretty small. Your best bet isto just statically check for continuity on that one 180-280ohms(isolate it and 'ohm it out' should be 180-280ohms)...know what I mean? It would be awefully rare to have a crank sensor go bad, but possible none-the-less.

**OOPS!I retract the below, flippant statement.Starter relayuses thesame ground asthe below equipment, sorry**
IGNORE Are your headlights, tail light, horn and signals working OK? They -and CDI- use a different ground wire than the starter does (starter grounds straight to frame).

morning, so yes the lights, horn, tail light, turn signals, everything do do with the dash is working fine.

So the little gr/white and white/yel cable when I tested them yesterday there was nothing.....ZERO and then a little something and ZERO again. So I have sent that off toa chappy I know thatcan tell me if its ok or not. Ifits ok then the only thing left would be the CDI....yes?

You said you have a muti-meter, right? Set it up to check ohms on the Rx1 scale and check for a good groundat the CDI's large connector onthe Black/Yellow and Black/Red wires...you should have very close to zero ohms. If your meter is the auto-scaling type, disegard the 'scale' part. Additionally, reading resistance between the green/white wire at the CDI connector and the Green/white wire at crank sensor connector you give you close to zero ohms.

Also, did you ever get around to checkingfor power on thebrown wire on theCDI large connector?

If you are able to confirm all of that, then, yes, that pretty much narrows it down.

I'll bet he wishes that was his problem That's one I don't mind having..as long as there's a station nearby.

cheers for the pointers tremor, I have not had time to checked that brown wire at the CDI, but I will in the nextfew hours. I think I need to be looking at replacing the all knowing black box!!!!!
