Default Starter Motor

how hard is it to replace the starter motor? I think mine just went. Just a whine and nothing else. Barely a year old, with almost no mileage. Really just pisses me off. Any ideas? Used to do it on cars a lifetime ago, but...? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, G.

Did you try tapping it with something. My first car had a starter that slowly died over a year; many times I was able to crawl under and hit it to make it work.
A bad battery or connection might also not provide enough juice to make it work correctly.
At least in my car experience that was true.

I'll try the tapping method, forgot about that. Bike is still under warranty for another 13 days, so I may get out of this okay. Still, not happy. Thanks for the quick reply. I'll let you know.

That is a bit unusual, Lb, but I guess anything mechanical can fail newer or older. I would agree insuring that you're not somehow dealing with a low battery or funky connection.

so I dropped by my Kawi dealer and they said it may be covered by warranty. I told them it sounded like the starter clutch had gone. You can hear it spinning, just not engaging. If it's not covered, I'll do it myself. Already got screwed by a local dealer up north, Lynwood Motoplex, so I'm not optimistic. But I'll let them look and see what's what. Thanks for the input guys. At least my DRZ still runs. Get my weekly fix in when my little one lets me.
