sputtered and died instantly - help
cruising at about 70 mph on 6th...wasn't braking or changing gears...quick sputter and engine cut out...rolled to a stop...put it in neutral, and tried pushing the ignition button and nothing...headlight, blinkers and dashboard is working fine...pushing the ignition button does nothing...any help on what to check first?

full tank of gas...checked the battery with a tester and it's fine...i checked the ignition fuse and fan fuse, and both are fine...
I would verify fuel flow into the carb. Pull the kill switch and sidestand switch to remove them from the equation. After that I (and I've never tried on this bike so I don't know how hard it would be) my next move would be to check for spark.
any instructions on how to disable the kill switch?....i'll do a search also...this seems like the next logical step...
so...i was just following the wire coming from the kickstand....i noticed it was plugged near the airbox..i just kind of disconnected and plugged it back in...just looking for any loose wires...i push the ignition button and it fires up cold without even choke like always...i just wiggled the wires coming from the kickstand...and, the bike starts up fine and runs smooth....i didn't even do anything!...what the heck...i guess just wiggling the kickstand kill switch wire fixed the problem....
sheesh..i do not want this to happen again....coming to a stop in the middle of the freeway is no fun...i need a permanent fix to this so it doesn't happen again...hmm..i just unplugged the kickstand wire connection near the airbox...the bike starts fine with it unplugged...is it fine to just ride with this unplugged????

i was doing a search online on disabling the kill switch and people mentioned just unplug and it's done...is there a difference between just unplugging the wire to the kickstand, and cutting the wire?

on the '06 and 7, the kickstand connectors under the seat could be disconnected from the switch, and simply connected together, bypassing the switch. I believe the 09+ weren't so simple, but same process.
in any case, kickstand up = switched closed (connection completed) and down = open (switch connection not completed). The two leads should be connected together to run, not disconnected. Your description sounds different...weird.
