Default Spokes- how often to check?

Just something I was thinking about, how often should we get our spokes checked to make sure they have correct tension in them?? Has anyone done this yet?

Per the dealer I checked them at 20 miles. His recommendation, while not exact is to tap them with a pencil or something light and hard. They should make a crisp musical note, not a dull thunk. It's definitely far from perfect but its better than nothing. Every few hundred miles is probably reasonable.

Joshua is exactly right. I use a 10 mm wrench and pretend I'm playing a harp. Go all the way around both sides. They are not all going to sound exactly the same octave, but you will know if you have a dead one that is deeper in sound.

Make sure you have a dial indicator to check run out when you ajust them, if you dont you could end up with a real mess.

How do you guys know that to even set them too. On the mountain bike I used to have you would have to set them to a certain tension, if not the the wheel would be bent every which way.
