Default Sonoran Desert Ride in Black

It finally rained last night, seems like three months since the last cloud burst. With temps hovering close to 115º the bike has been collecting black widow webs and the rattlesnakes in the garage have been trying to mate with the small radiator hoses on the KLX.

So with the temps driven back down into the high 90's I decided to take the spiders and snakes for a ride out to the lake which is about 30 miles away. Rode up a sandy arroyo for about 20 miles before hitting pavement - the KLX sucks in the sand! Riding for 30 some odd years, I've never owned a dirt bike that washes out so easily in the front end

The lake water looked nice and cool and I wanted to jump in but was dying for a cold Corona more - so I blipped the throttle and headed home!

That is my favorite place in the desert to ride out to Mark! I definitely prefer riding my YZ in those deep sanded and silted washes over the KLX, less of a workout. Great pics! Still using that old beat-up Canon of yours?

Nice pics, looks like you could go anywhere you wanted on the klx...don't need no stinkin roads. I wanna go out there in WINTER and visit.

Oh it is a bit of a pig in the sand, but it grows on you and makes you soooo much better on other bikes in the sandy stuff.

Awesome shots. That part of the country looks like trail bike mecca. Looks like you had fun.

Nice pics and awesome country.
I wouldn't mind having a crack there.
Hard work at those temps...!!

I tried to organise a ride when I was in Las Vegas.
There was at least one tour company offering day rides in the desert.
Just didn't find the time.

But I'm coming back!

Nice pics. Have you bolted on your 331 yet? I can't remember, did you say you got a new carb too?

I sent the 331cc kit back to Kustom Kraft when I spotted a crack in the piston - couldn't believe it! So I went with the Kawasaki 300cc kit instead. If it wasn't for your great blow-by-blow photos and instructions Brian, I would have never tried to do it myself. I took my time pulling things apart plus inside the garage is like 200º (slight exaggeration) so it took me about three days to R/R the whole thing (did it completely sober too, alright not totally true, took a couple of Xanax when I thought I put the rings in wrong!) - it fired up like I hadn't even touched the motor - COOL! I passed on the Bill Blue Mikuni carb though with business slowing down during the summer and the mounting bills I needed the extra money for my Corona Distresser Fund!

Wow that is great! Here I am in Texas worrying about the fire ants crawling up my sleeve 5 minutes after leaving my house....

What rack and bag combo is that?
