Heres my first go at a ride report. I learned a few things like TAKE MORE PHOTOS

Starting off by getting into the "Power Ranger Suit" at the shop and one last photo before heading out.
Stoped by the fuel station and actually picked up more water than gas. Love the KLX
Rode up to "Nimitz Hill" to look for the the trail. There is a trail that cuts across to an road near my house. I knew the trail started on Nimitz Hill just was not sure where. So I started by going down the groomed powerline road where I encountered my first obsticle Here is a photo from the far side. Photo makes it look easier to me! Basicly had to get off the bike and push and drive to get the back tire up out of the mud at the left end of the grate and up the slope a little. its a 3' drop where the pool is so thats out of the question. This photo makes it all look flat
another since I took so few of the whole ride. Then up some easy hills back to pavememt. Wrong trail! So I rode up to the very top of the pavement/gravel on the hill and saw there was a pipeline paved road and some paved road to service the high tension power lines. Did some investigating and found a way around the fence to get on the pipeline road that also feeds the powerline service roads.
On the pipleine road was a turnoff to this
its a memorial marking the site where Korian Airlines Flight 801 attempted to land about 3miles early. I knew a guy that was on the flight and he luckily was one of the 25 survivors. Crawled out of the plane soaked in duty free booze and on fire. Here is the plaque.

This is the first time I had been out here since helping with the rescue/cleanup after the crash.

Found the end of all the options on this road/roads. had a nice veiw of Guam's metropolis so I snapped a photo.

So it was back to the paved road up nimitz hill. I came up behind a jeep full of offroad pedel bikes and followed it. Turns out the trail I wanted goes off to the right and hooks around the mountain I was looking to the right int he direction of where I wanted to end up. So I rode the trails trying to guess which went in the right direction. Also hopeing I did not have to come back up as my tread is a little light. Should have taken more photos but was concentrating on not letting the bike take a nap. Almost had a small disaster as I came down one hill onto the top of a ridge and the front tire dropped off the side of the ridge. I was able to keep me and the bike from following. Was about 100' of 80degree slope! Finaly stopped to take a photo of this canyon (looks less daunting in the photo) To the left you can see a white patch far away. That is the toughest part of the trail. Kind of super hard clay/almost sandstone broken up into squares and rectangles. on a sidehill kind of climb. Thought I would not make it up but the KLX handled it.

That canyon had a wall 12' high at least. So anyway I made it to the relitvely easy part near "Leo Palace and finaly ran into someone else. It was a guy named Joe on a suzuki Quad. We had a drink of water and then he offered to show me the "Tank Farm" so we headed over. Here is one of the two tanks I saw. There may be more. Note the black spots are bullet holes that go all the way thru. I dont know if this is one of ours or is Japanese but its from WW II.

then we decided to try to head strait to the exit point. Got down and found a bog with some guard rails laid across. Feeling confident that I had not laid the bike down yet I decided to put the tires in the grooves and go across. I made it across but was leaning so much that I ended up tipping over on the far bank as I had no place to put my foot down and catch myself. Should have kept going! Landed about where I was standing to take this photo.


Last look at the "Tank Farm" before the long 2 mile ride home.


I will try and take better and more intersting photos next time. This time I was concentrating on makeing it across. This was the first day out with the SIDI boots and other protective equipment. I have to say I am more than pleased. The barkbusters were also invaluable. I just wish I had something for the branches that clear the bars then smack me in the arms and chest. Oh I guess that would be a chest protector!

Parting shot is of the cake my employee made me for my birthday a couple weeks ago. Mountian with a KLX on it! KLX had a dirt nap on the ride over so it looks a little worse for wear after mending. Note the parts laying on the ground below

Is there such a thing as a big ride report in Guam?

Pretty cool. Looks like you need a GPS next! You'll never have to worry about getting lost (unless the batteries die).

Thanks for the complements. I understand there are more tanks out there and some are japanes and some are US. I will have to look for them.
Jpaul I hear ya. Got to be careful they are also like mazda pickups-nice when they are new but no resale value.

That was great Jim. I love seeing other parts of the world from a locals point of view. Glad you got the camera and picture posting thing sorted out. Looks like you have some good places to ride. The plane crash memorial and the burned out tanks were very interesting. Keep taking pics.
