A slew of mods this weekend
See my signature line for most everything. The Barkbusters and the windscreen were done a couple of weeks ago but everything else took place starting this past Thursday (this is being written Sunday night).
Final mod tonight was installing the speedo calibrator. Used -8% correction factor but will likely need another adjustment or two after a test ride tomorrow after work. All I could do tonight was verify on a short ride in town that the speedometer still gives indications.
If I could only do and keep one mod out of all of them, it would be drilling the starter jet to .018" (once done, it's irreversible anyway!). Bike starts right up cold on first button push now instead of taking forever to get started with lots of wear and tear on battery, starter, my nerves, etc. I was starting to run out of new vocabulary words to help get it started.
After mods, the throttle has a bit more authority off idle and the bike seems to pull me along without too much effort (for a 250). One thing that bears watching however is a slight "surging" at highway speeds on pavement. Don't know if that was due to wind buffeting effects or something else.
In future, aftermarket exhaust plus intake wire mesh removal will likely be the next mods.
Good riding to everyone!

For a picture, I'm not too savvy with adding images to posts but here is the address to the picture at TurboCity where I ordered it from: http://www.turbocity.com/popup_image.php?pID=747. Very easy to install and keeps me from getting my chest blasted on the highway. No more 'death grip' or having to lean way forward at high speeds. Helmet still catches wind but no biggie. It ain't cheap but it's worth every penny.
For the drill bits, I went to a place called The Yard in Wichita and got their last set of jeweler's drill bits, sizes #61 thru #80. Best to use a pin vise for bits that size.
