Running rich? Or running naked?

Running rich? Or running naked?
Why is my bike running rich? I did all the carb mods several months ago (I've put at least 2000 miles on it since) and last week I checked the plug (light gray) and the HMF muffler looked pretty clean inside - after riding this weekend I checked the muffler exhaust and it is thick with black carbon deposits. I also noticed some backfiring for the first time at around 70 to 80 mph when decelerating - what gives?

RE: Running rich? Or running naked?
Generally if the weather cools down that would make it run leaner since the air is more dense but the fuel delivery is the same. Are you sure it's not running leaner? Decel popping generally indicates a lean condition.
Quick test - try restricting the airbox a little and see if it gets better or gets worse. If it gets better, you're lean, if it gets worse, you're rich. Try raising or lowering the needle one clip position accordingly and/or increase or decrease the main jet one size. Readjust the pilot circuit afterwards.

NoBrakes, I'll check the filter and put the KDX snorkel back on an try it. The weather has cooled down from the high 90's into the mid-80's, same low humidity (10%).
Mark I told you to keep your eyes on the carb not me!
