Default Rookie questions

Just bought a holdover 07 klx250 today. Out the door at 4300. Never ridden a day in my life. Wondering if it is possible to break in my new best friend while only being able to ride city streets with a learning permit. Or do I do the unthinkable and let a buddy break it in? Also need to know what mods would be easy enough for dipstick like me to take on this summer.

Yeah man! Just ride it. Riding the city street should break it in fine. Take all the small roads and as many lights and stop signs you can stand. This will let you use the gearbox an awful lot, up down up down up down, you get the drift. Its as much about running in the gearbox as it is the piston etc. You want to try and use every part of the engine as much as possible in the early stages.
I dropped the oil after 150KM, new filter and Motul 5100 10/40W. Sorted.
