Riding on the rocks, ruts and roots
I have been riding a lot of local places here in RI, but followed along on ADV about a local place in CT. Pachaug State Park. There is a 60 mile loop for plated bikes to ride. I finally got a clear Sunday morning, and decided to trailer out and see what it was like.
WOW. Its pretty intense. Its only about 30 miles from my house, so I can see riding there on a regular basis. The trails are marked pretty good, but you have to be paying attention to see the red arrows that guide you. One of the guys put a GPS track online, but this silly dumazz forgot to load it into his GPS. Oh well, might as well make it an adventure right. I did remember to put the new Barkbusters on before I left. It was easy, I also installed a new set of Pro-Taper bars.

I posted over there I was planning to go, and 3 guys decided to join in. One had ridden parts of it before, but didnt know the complete loop, one had a bigger bike, and one took off early. The three of us left at 10am.
Me on an 07 KLX, NiceToy on an 09 KLK,
and ToroOne on a BMW six fiddy Dakar

This place rocks !!

No really, its a lot of twin track, a bunch of single track, a lot of water and brooks to ride in and over, some fire roads, some dirt road/trails, but you have to have a plated bike, as the loop is connected by roads.

We had a great time. ToroOne was wheeling that BMW right along, its a big pig, and maybe a bit out of place for these trails.
I stayed back a bit, riding sweep and jamming along with an awesome playlist in the IPOD, came around the corner just in time to see this happen, one of the ruts got him

I hope I can still ride like that when I am 76, Yup 76
NiceToy saw me trying to help him, and cam zooming back to help out.

It took us both to get the six fiddy off him enough so he could get his leg out, and all three of us to get it standing up again.
NiceToy is a big boy, he maxs out the little KLX, but still has a ton of fun.
After the third drop, ToroOne decided he had enough, and was gonna buy a new tire and see us in 2 weeks.

We decided to keep riding.

I didnt spend a lot of time taking pictures, cause I bounced the camera off the ground and ruined the lcd screen,
so I didn't even know if the pictures were coming out.
This place rocks !! No, really

The hill climbs were awesome, I was maxed out on a few of them, but all the years of riding everything else besides bikes taught me, never lift on the hills, just keep going, keep the revs up, and just keep digging, you'll get there. I made the tough ones, NiceToy had one biff, but never stopped smiling.

We spent 4 hours out, then both realized the day was half over and we had to tend to a few things beside play time.
Time to load up and head home

I forget sometimes how hungry I get from riding
Stopped at the little country store, got a great lunch for $8.00

4-1/2 minutes later

Dave is happy now.

I even took the KLX home and gave it a bath, not a professional Deej quality cleaning, but I did use some Soap AND water.

All in all, an awesome day, cant wait to go next weekend.

We did 35.6 miles of the 60 miles, so not bad for 2 guys new to the trail system.

Nice! I did that loop with a few friends about a month ago.. You didn't get to see the REALLY rocky parts.. Seriously, there's some spots towards the end that look like trials bike tracks.. Insane..
Also - the water crossing is nuts:

Let me know if you're going back again, I'd be down to shoot over!

I've watched that Pachaug thread since last year. One of these days I'll have the time to join one of those rides. I did part of the loop last year on the Thrill n chill dualsport ride. It's tough in there.
I want to try this out too, do you have an address or gps coords for the trailhead?

I didnt get to that water crossing yet, not sure if I would try to find away around, or pull the old, "hey diddle diddle, wide open thru the middle "

Yeah those KTM guys are like that. We did Mt. Misery and that water crossing.
Of course it probably is easy on them bikes. Was that water crossing on the enduro run, or the dual sport ride? I think I might go again this Sunday, can you get away for a few hours?
even if its not up to my standards.
