Riding "The Pines." Perth, Western Australia.
Took a ride today with my mate to a place known locally as "The Pines", Wangara, Perth, Western Australia.
My mate has an XR650R "Brute." He's just in the process of kitting it for motard. He had fitted the front 17" wheel and O/S disc combo, but needs a new tyre for the rear 17" before he fits it.
This made for an interesting ride on his part. His handicap kept us together quite well despite his 400cc advantage.
I had my new pants on (08 Shift Squadron.) Really comfortable and vented really well in the 28oC heat. Recommend them to anyone.
Not sure on the size of the plantation, but the Google Earth shows it well.
See here.
We went solid for about 90 minutes while in the plantation. Mostly hard packed fire breaks and soft loam while in the woods. There is quite a lot of deep sand also.
This proved to be our downfall. After gaining confidence over the first 30 minutes and finding myself chasing my mate at over 100KMh (YUP) at some points.
We were both brought down to earth when we decided to tackle some of the smaller trials.[sm=badidea.gif] Sand. Sand. Sand. Lots of it, and soft. Really soft as only WA can be.
30 Minutes and only 2 KM later. We decided we needed a rest and voted for more fire trail and loam action,[sm=goodidea.gif] no more F$#in' sand.
Here are a few pics taken along the way.
The ones on the bridge are at Bells Rapids. Site of the Avon Descent, the worlds longest endurance kayak/canoe/ski race.
The funny thing is, unknown to us, the other end of the bridge is blocked. This forced a U-turn. The bridge is narrower than a bike. DOH. 4 Hands made light work. Job done.
Great way to spend a couple of hours despite the "incidents." We're still smiling.
Has the snow melted yet?
I hope it's not raining. [sm=innoc.gif]

Absolutely awesome man. Its great to see ride reports from across the globe. Oh and nice work on the License plate blackout Thanks "mate" I gotta get out and post up a new ride report. When I first got the KLX back in November of 05, it seemed like I was posting one a week, now I'm lucky if I even have time to read the reports here. But summer is here and let the reports commence.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

I'm a POHM, moved here 6 years ago from the UK.
AUSTALIA,[sm=americanasmiley.gif] is one awesome country.
I learned today that there is a lake down here, Lake Eyre, that is nearly 10,000 square KMs in size. That's 4 times the size of Luxembourg.[sm=WTFsgign.gif]
