Default Repacking mufflers, when should it be done?

I've got an FMF Q4 slip-on and was wondering how often do they need to be repacked? Is there some way of telling when it's needed? Certain mileage? Once a year? Thanks all.

I have done my big gun 2 times... but i put alot of miles on, big gun gave an hour interval of repacking, but that was race conditions... i didnt do it last year. But if you notice it getting alot louder... repack it.

I didn't know the FMF Q4 *WAS* re-packable.. Been running mine almost two years and I can't tell a difference in sound.. But maybe I'm used to it now? I dunno.. Let me know what you find.

FMF does list a repacking kit for the Q muffler, but I can't find information about when it should be done. If it's just a change in sound level then it could be hard to determine as the change would probably be gradual over time.

Written on the muffler installation instructions that came along:
Maintenance:We recommend repacking your FMF muffler after every 20-30 hours of normal use when properly jetted (more frequently for less than optimal jetting. This will maintain peak performance and keep the race tone.
I dare think that's 20-30 racing hours.

huh.. I'll have to check it out now. Never read the instructions for the exhaust, I just bolted it on and jetted. I didn't think this can was serviceable. Learn something new every day

20-30 hours of normal use??? If you average 30 MPH that would mean repacking every 600-900 miles. I don't have a clue what my average mph would be but I better order a bunch of packing!

Now that you mention it Erekose I remember reading that line when installing my Q4. IMO 20-30 hrs of riding is very short. I've done more than that in the last month and I'm sure there's others here that ride much more than that. That would equate to re-packing 3-4 times a year. NOT!
I guess I'll just have to keep an ear to things and see if it gets alot louder.

It's indeed very short and that means with daily use (such as mine) 3-4 times might not be enough.Anyway I knew that buying an aftermarket exhaust would create more scheduled tasks for the bike's maintenance but I've already decided that I'll be repacking it once in a year or IF it gets too loud to ride.I believe that's fair enough.
