Removal of my leaky, from day one, coolant overflow bottle?
Yeah, I found out about the tank and that it was no longer available within 5 minutes of each other; my bike is a 2012. I just always kept an eye out. I found mine on ADV in the parts section. Went looking for something KLX applicable as a lark. I found it posted in early May, sent the guy an e-mail, and on Thursday should have it. Total fluke that I kept looking through 20+ pages of GS and KTM parts.
So I got the Baker tank today. It is really well made.
Unfortunately, I cut off the helmet lock, which is one of the main mounting points. Doh!!! So now I have to find a welder to put a piece of steel plate back on the bike, then drill and thread it myself. I wish I had an oxy-acetylene set-up, I'd do it myself. Now I'm going to have to spend some serious time taking apart the bike at the welders for a 5 minute job. Live and learn.
And Kawasaki thought it would be a good idea to use a brass threaded insert in plastic to hold one of the coolant bottle bolts; it just spins in the plastic. I'm going to have to remove all sorts of stuff to get at the brass collar and fix it in place to get the bolt extracted.
I love simple projects...
So much for extending my range for my trip to Chicago. I guess I'll be stopping for gas a lot, again...
Being on a tight budget sucks!!!! Time to sell some stuff on e-bay.
