Talking Rebuild

I had to finally rebuild the green apple's top end. I had been able to reach 35,990 miles!!! When did a leak down check had around 25% leakage at rings. When I tore down cylinder wear was fine only had .02mm taper and out of round. piston to cylinder clearance was .08mm. Ring end gaps were top ring .50mm second ring .42mm oil ring gap .80mm!!
Do not get me wrong I had been milking the KLX oil use had been starting to use about 1/2 pint of oil every 300 miles. The valve clearance was intake .15mm & .16mm exhaust .16 & .16 mm. Note on the valve clearances one had to reshim one time during the last 35,990 miles. During top end I replaced cylinder and piston with 300 stuff. I also replaced exhaust valves. The valves had some pitting in the sealing surface from carbon flaking. I use Kibblewhite exhaust valves. I have used the KLX for commuting alot about 80% road 20% offroad. I think that overall has been a great little bike but 300 cylinder makes a big improvement over 250 cylinder.
