Default This Really Sucks!

I wanted to rejet my TM36-68 carb and something I noticed before removing is that the fuel screw had no effect on the rpm when adjusting, something I also wanted to address. I removed the fuel screw to find the tip broken off and wedged inside the carb. It took me a couple of hours to remove it but I ended up snapping of a needle that I was using to push it out and after a couple more hours there is no way to remove the broken needle. The body of the carb is not sold separately so its a new carb. $279 (fu@king) dollars.

Sorry for venting.

There is a way machinists remove small steel parts in an alloy body.

What you do is disolve the steel with common alum from a grocery store in the pickling/canning department.

Do a search on the process so you don't think I am pulling your chain. There will be instructions on the mix, might take a few days but it does work. John

Trust me, after what I've done there's no going back but thanks for the suggestion.

You'll want to throw it against a solid block or brick wall. Having it hit the drywall in the garage is just not very satisfying!

Ill do that after I get the new carb which I just ordered, I need the jets from it.

If anyone is wondering how the fuel jet broke off I think it was from me over tightening it. Surprised because i dont remember really over doing it.

Now that's one of the "suckier" snafu's I've read in awhile. Hey...we've all buggered up one thing or another if we've worked on stuff long enough. It happens. That one is painful.

I hope someone can benifit from my f@€K up and make sure you go easy on the fuel screw. I would never have thought the tip of the screw could break off but when it does its almost impossible to remove it. I was using a small needle and trying to push it back out from inside the carbs throat. The needle just kept bending. I then used a small angle pick that I ground down so it would fit into the tiny hole and manged to get the fuel screw tip out but broke of the tip of the angle pick. I was trying to push it back out will a needle and that ended up getting stuck. Grrr!

It was that kind of weekend. Also hit a stump with my riding mower and broke the cut blade spindle clean off and bent the deck.

Some weekends are better to relax. Just get the lawn chair out, couple of six packs and watch all the others struggle through life!

Yeah, I've seen bare bodies available on the cheap.
