Default Raising the Seat Hight!!

I know there are a lot of threads about lowering the seat hight, and I guess if I road more road I might have a better appreciation for that, but coming from a background of MX bikes, this bike seat seems a bit low for me.

Also, that"slot"/ diptowards the front doesn't really allow me to sit back a bit on the seat comfortably since I inevitably slide forward into that "slot"/dip.

I also like being a bit higher on the bike when I'm riding so that I don't feel like my knees are up by my waist when I'm sitting on the seat, and my feet are on the pegs.

The other issue I needed to solve is that, for the time being, my son sometimes rides MY bike (I won the first of what will probably be many wresting matches in our living room) and he needs the standard seat hight. (I also have the rear shock spring setting set for maximum hight)

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I placed a bid on a KLX300 seat on Ebay and won (its the same exact seat as the KLX 250, ex the strap)

Here is the stock seat hight (leaned slightly over onto the pole to hold it up)

I also purchased the Tall foam insert and cover from http://www.gutsracing.com/pages/cata...kiorderpg.html

I first took off the cover of the e-bay seat:

Then pulled off the Stock foam from the seat pan (Does anyone want to buy this stock foam? $25 + shipping and its yours....)

You can see when comparing the two foams, the stock one has that "slot" or dip towards the front and the Tall foamrunsmuch straighter/flatter like an MX bike:

Next I sprayed a bit of adhesive on the front andrear of the seat pan and also on the front andrear (underside) of the tall foam pad to keep it in place (thats all the factory does apparently):

Finally I stretched on, and stapled in place the new seat cover and compared the new tall seat to the stock one :

No more slot/dip!!

Back on the bike it raised the hight approx 2 inches in that slot area and basically flattened it out which was my goal!!!

The finished job:

I rode it today on the trails and its great, no more sliding to the front. I now have a comfortable seat whereI can choose theplaceon the seat I want to sit at!!

Awsome, that looks great. How hard was it to stretch the seat cover over that extra foam? Is it any softer? I like that sitting position much better, I almost always find myself scooting back.

Great writeup and photos. Good job on the seat install too, DS. Good find on that website too. That's the first 'riser' seats that I've seen for our bikes.

The foam and the seat cover fit like a glove. These guys at GUTS have this thing wired...

Based on some dicussions with Nobreaks, I bought the "soft" seat foam which apparently is the same as our stock seat foam.

I'm very happy with the way it rides and how I have total positioning choice again like I did on my CR....

Yeah, it just seems weird that the only place you can sit is in the slot/dip.... This setup is much better for me!!!

Great job, Dirtsurfer!

Finger Mullet, the seat pan on the KLX250S and the KLX300 is identical so the foam should be interchangable between them.

+1

It was easier to find a KLX300 seat on ebay... (and I needed the original seat intactso I could trade it out for when my son rides)

They are the exact same seat pan and foam ex the street riding strap!!
