Racing a KLX250s

I had a fun weekend - I took the KLX250s racing!

We have an Ultra-Lightweight class (Single cc - 393 or less, Twin - 325 cc or less, Triple - 250cc or less) at Desert Road Racing, and I took first place on my first time riding SuMo! I've been watching for ebay deals on all the parts needed to "F" my KLX250s, and it finally all (mostly) came together. (still waiting on springs... this made braking an adventure in pogo-stick racing)

I was really glad I got the bike ready for this - especially after I crashed my R1 on the first lap of the race.

Nice pictures!
That looks like a lot of fun!
Hope the R1 is easily repaired.

Ultra-Lightweight??? How come you weren't disqualified?:D

Looked like some fun there. I had a buddy who used to have a load of fun and had some success racing a WR450R in some kind of SM modded form. Another guy in my area raced a Honda XR650R in a wicked SM setup. It's neat to see this category as the bikes actually can be set up to handle quite well without having to spend a ton on a road racer or extreme high speeds that can get more hairy. Nice pic.

HA! Lucky for me they don't count rider weight or I'd be going against the inline 4's!

There was a guy here who wanted to trade off his SM rims. it was in one of the "tire rubs" threads. You might see where that was and do a deal.

I bought SF rims on ebay so I have a set of street and dirt now - the only thing I'm looking for is the front brake caliper bracket so I can use the larger SF rotor but retail on it is ridiculous.

Next race

A picture from last Sundays race (June 7 at Inde Motorsports ranch - I took first place in my class again, and even beat a few of the bikes in the next class up too!

Hmmm...this is starting to sound like one of those scenarios where it's more the indian rather than the arrow...if you get what I mean.:D

Haha thanks! - At risk of Bragadicio, you may be right. Here's the video of my literbike race. After getting clobbered off the line, I pass a 201 bhp zx10 at 3:37, a Ducati Panigale at 4:40, a built CBR at 5:30 and finally a BMW at 11:45 that I had chased the whole time. All of this on my 15 year old R1 that I'm giving up at least 40 hp to all those guys on, not to mention no traction control or other modern bike goodies.

That being said, with proper springs now installed, the KLX at least makes it possible to run with some pretty nice small bikes!
