Default Quiet aftermarket exhaust

Just picked up a new 2010 KLX250s today. Have been reading this forum for a while. Hell, it felt as if I had already ridden this bike the first time I got on it. Lots of good information here. I have the DJ kit on order, picked up a .018" bit and will remove the snokel. Question is... Has anyone done these mods and kept the stock exhaust? I would like to be able to keep the bike quiet. I spent a lot time picking out a 4 into 1 to replace the 4 into 2 on my ZX14 with the same goal. If after doing the carb work, and if an aftermarket exhaust will make that much of a differance. Can someone recommend a relatively quiet one?

As far as I know, the FMF Q4 with the mega bomb header is the quietest setup you can get. The expansion chamber on the mega bomb acts like a little muffler and knocks 3-4 decibels off. It has a nice tone and sounds good, not too loud at all.

I believe David R ( I think, I can't remember right off the top of my head ) just built a pretty quiet system using an insert in a Q4 and made it even quieter and just about stock sounding. The post is just a week or so old, do a search and should be able to find it pretty easy. Good writeup on exactly what you are asking.

and yes, exhaust makes that much of a difference.

The stock system really chokes it up.

Sorry Tiger, I had you and David R in my head. Couldn't remember which one of you it was.

The quiet exhaust post was your. Got to give credit where credit is due.

The quietest, but still much louder than stock, is the FMF Q4. It is a very popular muffler here and in the woods for just this reason. Pretty big muffler though. The OEM in 2009 has a cat converter so it gets really hot. THe FMF will be a safety improvement in this regard. That ought to help you justify the purchase.

It says not to use OEM clamp for header to pipe when using fmf pipe and header... it seems to be held in two places on the muffler and by the header in the exhaust port? Truth?

Thanks everyone. Mega bomb and Powercore sounds like it. Possibly Tiger's mod if I get ambititious.
Last note... All the posts I have read here helped me to decide what enduro to buy and the mods I would have to do to improve it. They have all been right on. I'm pleased as hell I bought this bike (and found this forum). Been a lifetime since I have had an enduro (last one was a new XL600. What was that, 80's?). I'm pleasantly suprised it is as good as it is in stock form (some of you guys are kinda hard on it). Hell, my street bike is a ZX14, I have a clue what power is about. It's exactly what I expected from a 250.
Thanks again!
