Default Quick Motard Brake Question

I've been tossing around the idea of getting some supermoto rims for my klx since I am going to be commuting on it quite a bit now.

If I get a set of 17's do I have to upgrade the brakes? $1200 for the rims is pricy but couple that with the oversize rotors everyone seems to have and another sproket and they are out of my league.

So would stock rotors bolt up to the supermoto wheels? I only ask because everyone seems to upgrade the brakes at the same time.

Yeah, if you use the stock hubs just get another set of stock rotors so you can switch back and forth. I can switch mine in about 15 min. with a chain swap.

thanks kgwld1.... what size tires are you running on your setup? Do you have room for a 150 in the rear?

Me too, except i dont switch the chain, i have the same size sprocket as my dirt rims on the back of the motard rims. you do not need to upgrade the rotors, the smaller diameter wheels give you alot better braking as it is. as mentioned above - a 15 minute change or not even.....

That is my plan too, 15 minute change.

I am going to be picking up my rims tomorrow! Can't wait!!!

I have a set of 17in black Excell with lime green Rad hubs, lime green nipples, SS. spoked and trued. $1050 total. They are mounting my Avon Distanzia 120 & 150 as well for free, because they are so far behind and I have been waiting for an extra 3 wks. They will true your wheels if they ever come out for the entire time you own your wheels, I like that, plus they are close to me.

The Rad Hex hubs have the same bolt pattern as the 07 KLX250s, so you could use the stock rotors as well. http://www.radmfg.com/hex%20kit.htm

I just got this return email last week about the availbility on our bikes from EBC.

William,

Finally got an answer form EBC Brakes UK, and we now have a number for the stock size / OD Contour EBC Replacement Rotor MD6240C !

We will have a 320mm Super Moto Kit Made, new part number will be SM6240C however, it will be 90 day's or so before this kit ( ie; th Caliper Relocation Bracket ) will be designed & manufactured.

You can also use the EBC SM 300klx rotor kit just have to drill the holes and get new bolts.

Good Luck!

How much clearance do you have with a 150 rear tire? I'm sure its pretty close but just want to know how close before I ordered tires. Thanks kgwld1!

I'm just having an 18" laced for the front so I can put my 110 up front and going to a 130 in the rear
