Sure, it does a great job of degreasing the chain, but you need to follow up with replacing that lube. Mineral oil is for cutting boards and digestive issues, not drivetrain lubrication.

What does WD-40 contain?
While the ingredients in WD-40 are secret, we can tell you what WD-40 does NOT contain. WD-40 does not contain silicone, kerosene, water, wax, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), or any known cancer-causing agents.

I'm done with the wet stuff and on to the Dupont stuff.

Another good read: DuPont Teflon Chain Saver - DuPont Teflon Chain Lube - webBikeWorld

There are lots of great reviews on the product and a dry lube makes too much sense on an off-road bike.

This stuff is pretty good too and it was easier to find so it's what I'm using currently. Dries to a white waxy paste substance and sticks around for a decent amount of time. Can seems to last forever too. Bel-Ray Super Clean Chain Lube | ATV | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC.

(I'm not so sure I have the discipline or inclination to lube my chain every couple hundred miles! ......In fact, I'm SURE I don't, especially on the ZX9. The Husky? Maybe.)

It's an O ring chain. You don't actually have to lubricate it.

The exterior surfaces, sprocket teeth and the rollers, benefit from lube.

Jeez remember the old days, I'd remove the chain, hang it up with a bit of wire, clean it with petrol, let it dry. In the meantime heat up a big round tin of grease, drop the chain in to the molten grease, lift it out then let it dry. Put the chain back on the bike and ride. Long before o-ring chains of course.

I bought a can of chain cleaner and got all the grey gunk off. I then put on Motul Chain Lube.

After drying it seems kinda tacky, is that typical of all chain lubes or should I have wiped the excess lube off after I put it on? I just let it soak in.
