Default Pre '09 seat height vs. klx300r seat height

First post here, so I thought I'd introduce myself with an inane question.

According to totalmotorcycle.com, my '06 250 has an inch less of ground clearance and correspondingly lower seat height than the 300.
I'm a good 6'2", and wouldn't mind a bit taller saddle, so I'm wondering..what exactly accounts for this difference? The stock tires seem to have the same dimensions for both. Travel front & rear for both is the same.
Does the stiffer front spring on the 300 reduce static sag enough to account for this? Maybe the rear suspension linkage is different?

Interesting, I thought that the 300 and the 250 had the same basic dimensions.
Stiffer springs may be the answer.

I imagine at your height, stiffer suspension would be the way to go anyway.

Andy,

Gutsracing.com .... makes a nice high seat for the klx, I got one on an 06 like you got and I like it. Shoot I''m 5'9" with a 30" inseam.....and I hated the factory height. It will bring it up to 36" or so....still lower than my adv but acceptable.

I think the 300 and the pre 09 250 have the same travel, just the 300 has a bigger plastic tank and this needs a higher seat. The 250 gets the small metal tank and a slightly lower set fitted.

I had thought the tank might account for some of it, but what about the difference in ground clearance? Seems like the whole bike must be sitting an inch lower than the 300, so I figured it has to do with the springs (front, rear, maybe both).

The Gutsracing.com seats look great, that might be the way to go...

The 09 is lower than the 07 and earlier models. Reduced travel ! 07 and earlier have same travel as the 300.
