I put on new tires last night (Kenda Trak Master II's) and I also took the oppertunity to throw on some motion pro rim locks..

I weighed the rim locks - the front one was 66.4g, and the rear one was too heavy to weigh on my 100g scale.. I'm guessing it's about 125g or so.

I asked the guy when I bought the rim locks if I'll need counterweights (I knew I would) and he assured me that I would not.. I said "Okkkaayyy" and took off.

Now on the ride to work this morning anything over 50 starts hopping.

Does anyone who has rim locks know how much counterweight it took on each rim to balance them? I know they may be different weights, but should be good for a baseline. I'd rather not have to truck my wheels somewhere to get balanced if I don't have to.

i dont know how much myself as i had them installed/balanced at the shop..i can tell u its a lot.. some people actually use 2 rim locks per wheel installed on opposite sides of the rim to cancel each other out.

 

See if you can look on the weights and see what each one is.

I have about 6oz of lead - not sure what I'll need..

 

i couldnt see amounts on the weights.. they were muddy as hell. lol

120 grams. I weighed the one from my 94 KLX250R spare rim so it should be the same. You could always double check part #. I tried the lock and hate the wobble so I'm just going to ditch em.

 

Damn, that is a lot jsac! GreenMonsta - which one - the front or rear? The rear one is bigger by more than double.

I got a few stick on weights and made it a lot better, but it's not 100%. I'd be happy with 90%!

Spoke weights: 4 one ounce weights and 2 quarter ounce weights.

"stickey weights": 6 quarter ounce weights.

It takes alot of weight to balance out a rim lock.

I would suggest that you buy the spoke weights from Dennis Kirk as they carry the chrome spoke weights which look the best on a KLX rim. I have this set-up and am extremely happy with it. Very smoothe ride... I have the same rim lock as you and this worked out perfectly.

Jesus christ that's a lot of weight!!! But thank you very much for the #'s. So it's 6oz total on the back.. Good to know. I almost have that much, guess I need a little more..

And did you do a rim lock on the front rim?

 

I didn't put a rim lock on the front tire yet.
